How we do it?
-
Understanding what matters
With a top-down approach, we determine what would you like to measure. What is company's goal and strategy? What would C-level executives like to know on daily basis? Understanding client's core business is an important factor to objectives like margin and costs.
-
Mapping that to data sources
Connecting data sources and modifying them with various tools is what creates basis for the data model.
-
Design a data model that will fit
There are 3 standard approaches to Data Warehouse modeling. In practice we usually end up with a mix of two: Kimball and Inmon data model (sometimes called snowflaking).
-
Agree upon appropriate/applicable technologies
One saying goes: "IT is not a deterministic science". We believe there is no "right" way - rather a more appropriate one. However, we need to keep in mind avoiding 3O's: overdesign, overtechnical and overcomplicated.
-
Create a prototype
We make sure to deliver something of a value to the business fast. But keep things simple – Minimum Viable Product. Prototype may or may not be deployed to production, but it is still something to show (and brag about).
-
Create an implementation plan, framework, guidelines…
By using agile practices, we divide the project into smaller, parallel activities. After determining dependencies between them, we ask business to prioritize them. Additionally, we create a list of risks and confirmations from the prototype.
-
Iterative/incremental development process
Finally, we reach development and our technical endeavors. We provide continuous delivery (per business area).
-
Revisit what matters
